Hey, world! First, welcome to Aaron Gone Travelling! My name is Aaron Chin and Aaron Gone Travelling is a travel blog that aims to be both informative and inspirational to students and young people who yearn to travel. I write mostly about travelling as a student, the thrifty-nifty tips to save money (because I am a student), and the lessons I've learnt along the way.
Originally from the Malaysian part of Borneo island, I came to Melbourne, Australia to pursue my study in medicine. So, unlike other travel blogs out there, Aaron Gone Travelling is a humble student blog. I certainly have not dropped out of med school / quit my job / ditched my family to travel. Although the hype of long term travelling is ballooning globally, my blog is targeted towards students and young people who want to travel short term considering the commitments they have to meet back home.
Before starting this blog, I realised that the market out there lacks a presence of travel blogs run by Asian guys. Growing up in a typical Chinese family, I understand how the kids were expected to meet expectations all the time. I was ingrained with the idea of having a stable job is a luxury. Groping for a shot is just not how the Asian household runs. And of course, running a travel website is not something that will impress my parents. But I have a different dream and I am here to tell you that if you dream big enough, and there are ways to get it (even if you're Asian)! I really hope through Aaron Gone Travelling, I can show that a balance of adventure and passion is attainable despite a tight student budget and a demanding degree.
My mother tongue is Mandarin and I didn't speak English at all when I was younger. I decided to write this blog in English because I want to reach out to as many people as possible (although a quarter of the world speaks my mother tongue too). Writing this blog in English is not easy for me but I try my best to not scare you away with too many grammatical mistakes.
Through Aaron Gone Travelling, I hope to inspire you to travel. Travel doesn't have to involve big decisions like quitting your job. It should be enjoyed in whatever way you feel comfortable, be it a long weekend trip or a 3-month adventure. Travel is a privilege and I am grateful that I am lucky enough to be able to travel. It might be seemingly unattainable at times, but travelling is can be feasible if you dream big enough and plan it right! Leave your comfort zone and you'll be surprised by how much travel can change your life.
Travel is an endless journey of learning and my goal is to create an interactive and entertaining website to bring you all the adventures (and misadventures), honest struggles, priceless truths, and travel tips that I've picked up along the way. So, come join me as I embark on another daring chapter!
